"If You Think You'll Get Out Alive...You Must Be Dreaming!"

Kristen Parker is having nightmares. Very bad nightmares. The same horrible nightmares that have plagued the residents of Elm Street since...well, since they torched child-murderer Fred Krueger.

Every time Kristen falls asleep, she is taken to a land far away from the recesses of her mind-- Dream Land, the home of Fred Krueger. She always ends up going to his awful house, hearing the cries of the poor children he mutilated.

During one of her dreams, Kristen encounters Freddy, who slits her wrists with his razor-sharp claws. Meanwhile, her mother wakes her up, only to find that her wrists were really slit. Thinking it was an attempted suicide, Kristen is sent to Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital and placed in the care of Dr. Neil Gordon.

Dr. Gordon and the rest of the staff have no effect on Kristen, who continues to have the nightmares. While in the hospital, Kristen realizes that all of her fellow inmates have been dreaming the exact same thing. All six of them- Phillip, Will, Kincaid, Joey, Taryn and Jennifer- all suffer from sleep disorders as a result of Freddy Krueger.

At the same time, a young college student named Nancy Thompson, a dream "expert" from her past encounters with Freddy, comes to the hospital to help out. They begin to make a lot of progress, but then Phillip ends up dead, from an apparent suicide. Or at least that's what the other doctors said. The only people who had a clue were the inmates themselves, who knew it was Krueger.

Nancy, who realizes what's going on, recommends that Neal prescribe an experimental drug called Hypnocil, which she herself has taken to suppress her dreams. Neal agrees, but Dr. Elizabeth Simms, who refuses to believe the truth, says it is Neal's neck on the line if anything goes wrong.

That is also when Kristen realizes that she has a special power. During her dream one night, Kristen was attacked by Freddy, and she immediately called to Nancy, whom she pulled into her dream.. They managed to escape Freddy, but before they could alert the others, Jennifer is attacked and smashed into a TV screen.

At the same time, Neal, who doesn't understand why the murders are happening, runs into a nun, who tells him to "lay a soul to rest." Neal goes on to learn that Freddy Krueger is the son of Amanda Krueger, a nun who was accidentally locked in an asylum over a holiday with 100 maniacs. When the authorities arrived after the holiday, they found Amanda brutally beaten and raped-- and pregnant. Neal is instructed to find Freddy's remains and give them a proper buria and end the curse once and for all.

Neal goes to tell this to Nancy, who finally reveals to him the secret of Freddy Krueger killing kids in their dreams. Together, they conduct a group therapy-- unauthorized-- in which the entire group would fall asleep and dream together. However, during the dream, Joey is taken hostage by Krueger-- and slips into a coma.

Once Dr. Simms finds this out, Neal and Nancy are held responsible and fired. When Kristen finds out, she goes into a mad rage and is locked in seclusion in a padded room, where it is virtually impossible to stay awake.

With no other options, Nancy and Neal search for Nancy's father, Lt. Thompson, who would be one of the few people alive that knows where Fred Krueger was buried after the parents torched him. They find him in a bar, and he is not willing to cooperate. At the same time, Taryn calls Nancy and informs her what happened to Kristen, and Nancy rushes back to them. Neal, meanwhile, is determined to find Freddy's remains and uses force to get his answers.

That force leads them to Penny Brothers' Salvage Yard, where Krueger's remains are buried in an old Cadillac.

Back at the hospital, Nancy sneaks in, and she, Taryn, Will, and Kincaid go to sleep and into the dream world to rescue Kristen and Joey. Soon after, they find Kristen, but are then separated, and must each face Freddy alone. In Will's dream, he is the Wizard Master, but those powers aren't enough, and Freddy claws him in the stomach. Taryn is next, and Freddy "gets high" off of her, and turns his knives into needles and plunges them into her veins.

Kristen, Nancy, and Kincaid then meet up, the only ones left alive. They soon find themselves in Freddy's boiler room, where Joey is trapped. The three of them manage to save Joey and begin to fight Freddy. However, just when they start to lose, Freddy disappears.

Back at the junkyard, Neil and Lt. Thompson are digging to find Freddy's bones, when, all of a sudden, the bones come alive and attack them. It is Krueger, back to life in skeleton form. He impales Lt. Thompson on the sharp edge of the old Cadillac, and knocks Neal unconscious with the shovel. Then, with an unholy roar, the bones collapse, and Krueger leaves.

Back in the dream world, Nancy, Kristen, Kincaid, and Joey are attacked by Freddy once again. They gain the upper hand, and are about to escape, when Lt. Thompson appears to say goodbye to Nancy. However, it turns out that Lt. Thompson is not Lt. Thompson at all, but rather Freddy in disguise, stabbing her with his claw. With Neal knocked out, unable to bury Krueger's remains, Kincaid and Joey locked out of the room, and Nancy taken out, could Kristen finally win the battle, or would Freddy be victorious in this war with the 'Dream Warriors'?
