The Complete Timeline

We know creating a timeline for the Nightmare On Elm Street movies is virtually impossible, due to the contradictions that occur when each new sequel comes out. Anyhow, we thought we would compile the ONLY complete timeline on the net, so enjoy!

October 1918
Amanda Krueger is born in Springwood, Ohio.

July 1936
At age 17, Amanda decides to becom a nun, changing her name
to Sister Mary Helena. She is assigned to the local mental
institution to help the criminals and clinically insane.

Dec. 1937- Jan. 1938
Amanda accidentally gets locked inside the asylum over the holidays.

The inmates beat and raped her many times, keeping her hidden until the
guards arrived after the New Year. She was found barely alive, but pregnant.

September 1938
Frederick Charles Krueger is born, the "bastard son of 100 maniacs."

Amanda decides to keep the child and raise it, and the institution
allows her to keep her vows in order to keep the crimes from leaking out.

1948
The young Freddy begins showing potentially psychotic and sociopathic
behavior, becoming a loner and torturing animals.

January 1949
Freddy is placed into foster care after attacking Amanda with a knife.

1949-1954
Freddy bounces from home to home while in foster care, constantly
badgered and tormented by his grade school classmates, which included
Walt Lantz and Doug Parker.

September 1954
Freddy, age 16, returns to live with mother in the hope that she can
help him find guidance and get on the right path in life.

However, Freddy has other ideas, as his homicidal ways begin to take shape.
Freddy was suspected in killing dogs, cats, and many other animals in town.
Freddy also gets his first fedora, a hat which became his trademark years later.

April 1955
Freddy is released from his mother's care, after he repeatedly
and brutally beat her.

June 1955
Freddy drops out of high school and is sent to live with an old
farmer on the outskirts of Springwood. His surrogate father beat and
abused him repeatedly, but none of it seemed to affect him at all.

August 1956
Freddy is continually abused by his foster father, and he ends up
killing him. However, he was never tried because he was only 17.

October 1957
Freddy is hired as a janitor at Springwood High School, and his hormones
finally kick in, as he feels love for the first time-- or maybe lust--
for young waitress Loretta Johnson.

January 1959
Freddy and Loretta marry.

Jan. 1959- June 1962
Freddy lives a double life, acting as a loving husband by day,
and a man who rapes and pillages by night. He is in and out of
jobs at the school and a nearby factory.

June 1962
Freddy's daughter Katherine is born.

1962-1963
Freddy tries to change himself and be the loving husband and father
that Loretta and Katherine so desperately need him to be.

He make a valiant effort, but before long, the dark inside of him
would resurface.

July 1963- Sept. 1967
Freddy succombs to the evil within himself and begins the systematic
slaughter of the children of Springwood. He transferred to Springwood
Elementary School, and was known for using an ice cream truck to lure
his victims to the factory, where he would kill them using various
torture devices. Those devices included his infamous claw.

Freddy keeps a secret room in his basement full of his weapons, as well
as documented newspaper clippings on "The Springwood Slasher."

September 1967
Loretta accidentally stumbles upon Freddy's devious lair of horror
in the basement, and Freddy strangles her to death. Katherine witnesses
the event and tells on Freddy.

Katherine is taken away to an adoption home, and Freddy flees the law.

September 1970
Freddy gets back to his old tricks, and claws out a poor little girl's
eyes out. Police officer Donald Thompson crashes the scene, and has an
arrest warrant. Freddy is apprehended seemingly red-handed, as he was
brandishing a bloody claw from his right hand.

October 1970
After being in custody for a month, Krueger is put on trial. However,
during the trial, the defense attorney points out that the arrest warrant
was not signed, and therefore, illegal. Krueger is freed.

The enraged parents of Springwood, including the Thompsons, Lantz's, and
Parkers, vow revenge. They track Krueger down to the factory where he used
to work, and trapped him inside, burning him to death.

Freddy, however, has other ideas. Before dying, he made a pact with Satan's
dream demons, who gave him almighty power in the dream realm in exchange for
his soul.

Upon hearing of Freddy's release, Amanda Krueger reportedly hangs herself,
but no body is ever found.

September 21, 1980
17-year-old Tina Gray is brutally killed while sleeping with
her boyfriend Rod Lane. Rod is blamed for the murders, but flees.

September 22, 1980
Rod Lane is arrested; young Nancy Thompson begins to dream of
Freddy Krueger, who stalks her in her dreams. No one believes her.

That night, Rod dies in his cell of an apparent suicide. In reality,
Krueger killed Rod in his dream while he innocently slept in the cell.

Nancy starts to believe that Krueger is real, and is dying to find out
the real story before it's too late.

September 23, 1980
Freddy repeatedly attacks Nancy in her sleep, but she fights to
stay awake to avoid him. Her mother reveals to her the awful truth:
That Freddy Krueger was a child murderer and that they torched him.

Nancy tries to convince her that Krueger is back but attacking them
in their sleep, and her, along with the rest of the town, think she's
crazy.

That night, Nancy's boyfriend, Glen Lantz is mercilessly killed after
falling asleep. Shocked that all of the children of the parent who
torched Freddy are his target, Nancy formulates a plan to get Freddy back
into the real world so her father, Lt. Thompson, could arrest him.

Nancy succeeds, but after a battle with Krueger in reality, a strange series
of events occur, resulting in the death of her mother, Marge Thompson.
The killings stop, and Nancy and her father move out of Springwood.

August 1985
The Thompson house lied vacant for five years, but is bought
by Ken Walsh, who got a good deal, and moved his family in.

September 15, 1985
Young Jesse Walsh is tormented by his nightmares of Freddy Krueger,
who wants to use Jesse to be re-born into reality and wreak havoc
like never before.

That night, their high school gym teacher is killed while in the shower,
victim of an apparent clawed slasher. No suspect is caught.

September 16-18, 1985
Over the next few days, several more people mysteriously end up
dead, and with no suspect in sight, the town begins to fear the worst--
that Freddy Krueger had somehow come back to kill.

Freddy, meanwhile, takes over Jesse's body and murders several more
at Jesse's girlfriend Lisa's party. Lisa tracks Freddy down to the old
factory where he used to work, where Jesse drives away a weakened Freddy.

The murders stop, and the Walshes move out of the house, which wastes away,
becoming run down and vacant.

1986
While trapped in the dream world, Freddy attacks 17-year-old Joanna Larkin
and forces her into a fatal car crash. Freddy then implants his rage and fury
into her unborn baby, who survives the crash and becomes Freddy's pet project.

October 3-6, 1987
In a series of unexplained deaths, teens at the Westin Hills
Psychiatric Hospital are butchered in their sleep, the latest round
of victims of Freddy Krueger, who found a way back to haunt once again.

Among the dead this time are Lt. Thompson, and Nancy herself, who died saving
Kristen Parker and her fellow dream warriors, Kincaid and Joey. Freddy is
apparently buried and consecrated.

September 13-15, 1988
Freddy is dug up and returns a year later, tracking Kristen, Kincaid,
and Joey down again. He kills all three, and turns his attention to the
rest of the children in Springwood.

With her friends dying around her, young Alice Johnson is forced to confront
the Dream Master on his own turf, and successfully defeats him, releasing the
souls of all his past victims. She tells her story of Freddy to anyone who will
listen, but she is thought of as crazy, the latest 'Nancy Thompson'.

June 5, 1989
Alice, her boyfriend Dan Jordan, and the remainder of the senior class
of Springwood High graduate.

June 6-10, 1989
Alice's friends begin dying once again in their sleep, but Alice is baffled,
because they are dying while she is awake.

Dan also succumbs to Freddy, who found a way back into the dreams of the innocent.
Alice finds out that she is pregnant, and Freddy is using her baby's dreams as
his ticket home.

Alice is successful one more time, this time relying on baby Jacob's strength
to subdue the dream stalker.

December 1989
Alice gives birth to her son, Jacob Daniel. However, soon after his birth,
both Alice and Jacob disappear.

1989-1999
Over the next 10 years, mysterious deaths of children continue, and the town
finally comes to accept the reality that Freddy Krueger is responsible. The mass
psychosis that results tears the town apart.

September 1999
New evidence reveals one surviving teenager, but Freddy gets to him before he
can leave Springwood and erases his memory. The kid, termed John Doe, heads to
a nearby youth shelter outside of town, where he is placed in the care of Maggie Burroughs.

When it's discovered that Maggie is having the same nightmares as John, they go
back to Springwood to search for answers. However, three teens from the shelter,
Tracy, Spencer, and Carlos, stow away in their van and try to escape. Maggie orders
them back to the shelter while she and John look for clues. They find a depressed,
adult-only town, and discover that Freddy Krueger had a child. John thinks he is
Krueger's son, and that was why he was kept alive.

However, after Krueger dispatches Carlos and Spencer, he also kills John, telling him
that he kept him alive long enough to bring him to his daughter, Katherine, who was really
Maggie. Since Freddy was successful in killing all of the Springwood children, he tries
to use Maggie to get into the youth shelter. However, Maggie succeeds in pulling Freddy out
of the dream world, and a battle ensues.

However, after an explosion, police arrive and find the shelter abandoned, with only trace
elements left behind, including a brown fedora and fragments of what appear to be a claw.

1999-2000
The remaining children at the shelter and in nearby towns are locked up
inside the re-opened Westin Hills, and the town formulates a plan to forget
Freddy Krueger forever.

Freddy's birth and death are blotted out of the newspaper, as well as everything
else surrounding him, including all of the obituaries he was responsible for.

All children are prescribed Hypnocil, an experimental drug uses to suppress dreams.
People begin to move into Springwood from out of town, and the town slowly begins
to grow once again.

August 26, 2003
After four years of peace, Jason Voorhees is resurrected by Freddy
and sent to Springwood to instill fear back into the kids of Elm Street.
With that fear, he can once again return to a whole new crop of "his children."

Jason goes to the remodeled Thompson house, now home of Lori Campbell and her
father, a local doctor. The hockey masked maniac dispatches a young teen
in his bed while others party downstairs. Freddy is blamed, and the kids in
the house are clueless as the town is quickly hushed.

Back in Westin Hills, Will Rollins sees on TV that the murder took place in the
home of his former girlfriend Lori's house. He enlists the help of fellow inmate
Mark Davis, and they escape in search of answers.

Jason, meanwhile, still puppeted by Freddy, kills another partier
named Blake, and beheads his father.

August 27, 2003
The town is an uproar about the murders, and Will and Mark find
Lori and her friends at school. Mark tells them about Freddy, but then
they are forced to flee when police arrive.

Lori and her friends Kia and Gibb attend a rave at a nearby corn
field to try to escape for a night. Will meets them there, but
before they can figure anything out, Jason shows up, and start
killing again, dispatching many kids with his machete, including Gibb.

As Freddy rapidly regains his power, Will takes them home, but they
later meet back up after Lori's father goes ballistic trying to keep it
contained. They hurry back to get Mark, but it's too late. Freddy
already killed him. They figure out what Freddy's up to, and discover that
everyone who knew of Krueger, including Will and Mark, were locked up and
prescribed Hypnocil to keep them from dreaming. No dreams, no Krueger.
No Krueger, no death.

As both Freddy and Jason move in, they aren't safe awake or asleep. The group
breaks back into Westin Hills to search for Hypnocil to at least stop Freddy first.
However, Jason is right behind them, and Freddy takes over the body of Freeburg,
their stoner friend, and disposes of all the Hypnocil.

Jason starts killing them off one-by-one, but not before Freddy (in the form
of Freeburg) injects Jason with tranquilizer and knocks him out-- and into his
realm, the dream world. The remaining group formulates a plan to pull Freddy
out of the dream and into the real world-- where they'll wake up Jason and have
him ready for battle at Camp Crystal Lake.

En route, Lori goes to sleep to pull Freddy out, and discovers that Freddy killed
her mother. More determined than ever, Lori enters Jason's dream world, where
Freddy relentlessly tortures him about his horrid past.

Then, right before Freddy is about to kill Jason in the dream world, the
tranquilizer wears off and Jason returns to Camp Crystal Lake to stalk
the remaining members of the group. However, after being burnt awake,
Lori is successful in dragging Freddy into Jason's world-- the real world.

There, Lori and Will, the last two survivors, look on as Freddy and Jason battle it
out in the ultimate match of evil vs. evil. Freddy and Jason tear each other to
shreds, and are set ablaze by Lori and Will, then blown into Crystal Lake by some
nearby propane tanks.

Freddy emerges with Jason's machete, but before he can do any damage, Jason attacks
him with his own claw (and arm) and collapses back into the lake. Lori then grasps
the machete and beheads Freddy, as his body falls into the lake.

Lori and Will escape a fiery Camp Crystal Lake. Jason, perhaps in a dream state,
emerges from the lake carrying Freddy's decapitated head.
Freddy's head winks and laughs.

September 8, 2003
Freddy escapes the dream world once again, returning to Elm Street to haunt a new batch of teenagers.

September 9, 2003
A group of Elm Street teens participate in an experimental drug trial at the Katja Institute, eager to make a few extra bucks on the side.

Unbeknownst to them, Lloyd Reeves becomes the ticket to Freddy's return, as Freddy held him hostage to get to the other kids on Elm Street.

September 10-14, 2003
Murders mysteriously begin once again in Springwood, baffling the police and Sheriff Williams, who doesn't want to think about who is really causing them.

Young Alexandra Corwin begins losing her mind as her friends start dropping off one-by-one, all victims of Krueger's blades.

September 15, 2003
Alex discovers that the serum given to her during the drug trial changed her somewhat, along with the rest of her friends. It counteracted the hypnocil drug used to keep Krueger away, and made them all vulnerable to the deadly dream stalker.

As the terror comes full circle, Alex discovers that her own boyfriend, Peter, made a deal with the devil, and allowed Krueger's return. Alex finds out the only way to stop Freddy is to kill Lloyd, thus severing their connection to him.

Alex reluctantly does this, but is captured by police and charged with all of the murders.

She is locked up in the Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital, where it is discovered she is carrying Freddy's baby.

October 18-22, 2003
Freddy is resurrected by a group of outcasts called the 'Petticoat Mafia'. They hold his glove for ransom, and make an unholy deal with him.

In exchange for the glove, Freddy must kill six members of the wrestling team who gang-raped one of their own, Rose Gibson. Freddy agrees, and is sure to tell them what they are in for.

All hell breaks loose as Krueger is turned loose on the entire student body of Hemingway High School.

461 perish at the hands of evil, and Jane DeHaan, the sole survivor who sent Krueger back to hell, is arrested and the 'Petticoat Mafia' is blamed for the murders.

She is locked up in Westin Hills, and becomes catatonic.

November 2003
After being protected by a dreamcatcher for 17 years, Jerome Starkey, Freddy's pet project,
starts to lose control of himself to Freddy's attempted 'protege', an evil clone of Jerome
that he implanted with rage and fury 17 years earlier while still in ther womb.

Jerome fights with everything he has, but as the murders pile up by his hand, he totally loses
control and kills a number of those close to him. But as he moves in to kill his loving girlfriend
Cheryl, the real Jerome steps to the forefront and stops Freddy the only way he knew how-- by killing his human body.

October 23-29, 2004
Looking to get back to Elm Street at all costs, Freddy, realizing he'd wiped out the town's entire supply of hypnocil, begins to wreak havoc at his old stomping grounds.

Back on Elm Street, the town had moved on, and were ripe for the picking for The Springwood Slasher. Young Lexi Murphy had moved into 1428 Elm Street with her mother and sister, and she would lead Freddy to the new batch of Springwood's finest.

Preparing for the biggest high school football game in the town's history, the Owls, led by star players Mike Clark and Quinton Williams, had arguably the best team in the town's history. Nothing or no one would screw it up this time. Or so they thought.

Freddy began slicing and dicing his way through Mike, Quinton, and those close to Lexi, ultimately leaving her all alone in the dream world.

Moving in for the kill, Lexi finds Nancy Thompson's diary and realizes that to stop Krueger, you just need to take away all the energy you gave him. She did that, and Krueger was banished back to his hellish prison.

However, she was still unconscious in the real world, and was locked up in Westin Hills, with Krueger nipping at her heels as a mysterious man in a black trench coat watched from afar.

November 2004
Still unconscious following her battle with Freddy, Lexi Murphy wakes up in the confines of the Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital.

There, she tries to warn her fellow patients, including her roommate Gwen Peterson, and friends. However, Dr. Gregory Graham, the man in charge,
prevents her from spreading Freddy by making her look delusional and crazy, sending her to the dreaded D-wing.

Freddy, licking his chops, makes his way to a familiar, yet all-new playground, dispatching the remaining teens one-by-one until ultimately
coming for Lexi, her roommate Gwen, and the mysterious Man in Black.

Now revealed as Cameron Parker, brother of Kristen Parker, The Man in Black and company take Freddy-- and the hospital-- down, as the whole building
collapses onto Freddy.

February 2005
After surviving the dream realm, Lexi Murphy and Cameron Parker, now enjoying a new life together, enjoy a late-winter's ride on Cameron's
brand new motorcycle. The unusually warm weather allowed them to breathe in the fresh air of freedom.

Westin Hills, literally and figuratively, has been permanently shut down, as it simply would cost too much to rebuild.

As they enjoy their sunny day, an eerie chill is sent down Lexi's spine as she recalled that which was long forgotten-- The events with Fred Krueger,
and all the friends they had lost.

Cameron assures her the battle was won-- and the war, fought in this world and another-- was over.

But is it ever really over? There, in the far reaches of your mind, sits a familiar group of young girls, skipping and jumping rope and singing
a chilling nursery rhyme.
